March Daffodil Embroidery Pattern

Making of the March Daffodil

The March birth flower is a daffodil! This common Springtime flower is a ray of sunshine after the dark winter months. We hoped to capture the bright colors and Springtime-vibes with this Daffodil pattern. Stitch this design for yourself or gift it to a friend who was born in March! The March Daffodil is great for beginner and seasoned crafters alike.

Fun Facts about Daffodils

While researching for the Daffodil pattern release, we learned a few fun facts about this sunshine flower:

1. There are many different daffodil species, and they can be found growing in a variety of regions!

2. In England, you may hear daffodils referred to as "Lent Lilies" as they often flower around the Lent season.

3. Daffodils are the official 10th year anniversary flower!

4. The national flower of Wales is a daffodil.

Stitching the Daffodil

The March Daffodil pattern contains 5 simple embroidery stitches. First, we outlined the border with a split stitch, which gives a nice texture and sets is apart from the stitching within. Next, we stitched each petal using the stem stitch, giving a soft look to the petals. Check out the stem stitch blog for tips on how to do the corners at the tip of each petal. close up of stem stitch daffodil flower

Once the petals were done, we moved into the backstitch to complete the leaves and stems in the background. You can do the leaves first since they are technically in the background (therefore behind the flowers), but we wanted something to weave the floss into, so we did them after.

Then, to get that trumpet-look of the inside of a daffodil, we used a fly stitch. Finally, we finished off these lovely flowers with the French knot to bring it all together.Close up of stem stitch, fly stitch and french knot
