Making of the January Carnation
The first pattern in our Birth Month Flowers series is the January Carnation. The carnation is the birth flower for January. It is a sweet flower with dainty petals often available in many colors. Enjoy stitching this fun design for yourself or gift it to a friend who was born in January! This pattern is great for beginner and seasoned crafters alike.

Stitching the January Carnation
When choosing the stitches for this pattern, we wanted to pick stitches that would give texture to each part of the flower, while also being practical. This is why we chose the backstitch for the petals, as this stitch is best for those tight, rounded edges.
We then used the split stitch for all of the leaves and stems to give a different texture that still flowed with the entire peice. Finally, we framed the flowers with a beautiful stem stitch.
